Kevin Speer, a local competitive shooter, was selected as chair of the committee during its first meeting held in March.
The committee was created by the Luna County Board of Commissioners in response to concerns among local shooters from casual to professional that there are no adequate facilities to host target shooting, family outings, law enforcement training or larger competitive events.
Charles “Tink” Jackson, Luna County manager, said. “We are working to find a way to build a safe, fun and attractive range that is suitable for use by a wide variety of people of various skill sets.”
Jackson sees the potential for hosting large shooting competitions or even training programs for law enforcement.
Members of the committee include local law enforcement, retired military service members, individuals and business representatives.
