Longtime Deming School Board member Ruben Torres lost a three-way race to Dr. Francine Jacobs in district five. Jacobs received 100 votes, challenger Don Heacox received 69 and Torres, who has had health struggles and didn’t immediately commit to running for another term, received 40. Torres has served on the board for 32 years.
In district three, Matthew Robinson bested John Staehle for the seat being vacated by Dr. Andy Hernandez. Robinson received 85 votes to Staehle’s 29.
And in district four, incumbent William Bayne Anderson was able to hold off a challenge by Fred Williams. Anderson received 105 votes to Williams’ 83.
Out of 6,833 eligible voters, only 511 cast ballots for a voter turnout of just under 7.5%.
