(Deming) – Deming High School has a new head boys’ basketball coach.
Athletic Director Mike Ellis said the district has hired Red Mountain Middle School health teacher Juan Alvarado to be the high school boys’ basketball coach.
Ellis said Alvarado has served as the head boys’ basketball coach in Hatch and the head girls’ basketball coach in Pojoaque.
Alvarado was first hired by Deming Public Schools in 2008 as an elementary PE teacher at Bataan and Torres elementaries, before leaving the district for Hatch in 2009.
He returned to Deming as the middle school health teacher last school year, and also coached 7th grade girls basketball last year.
Nancy Patterson, associate superintendent of human resources, said Alvarado replaces Paul Maynes, who resigned.
