
Luna County Sheriff’s Captain Jose Martinez said 18-year-old Mia Gonzalez told deputies she fell asleep at just before 4 a.m. Sunday and lost control of the 2008 Ford passenger car she was driving westbound toward Deming.
The car rolled several times, and a semi-truck driver who witnessed the accident called 911 for emergency help.
Martinez said the Jaws of Life hydraulic rescue tool had to be used to extract the backseat passenger, 19-year-old Shanleigh Kouba, through the left rear door.
Kouba was transported with neck and back pain.
Gonzalez was transported with arm pain, and a front-seat passenger, 18-year-old Jisselle Vera-Botello, was transported with head and arm pain.
