Luis Torres-Torres of Chihuahua City, Chihuahua, Mexico, was attempting to drive a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup through the port Friday night when Customs and Border Protection officers detected a number of anomalies in the appearance of the vehicle.
An x-ray of the vehicle revealed a foreign object in the truck’s fuel tank, which turned out to be several large metal boxes containing 362 pounds of tightly compressed marijuana.
Torres was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigation agents.
Columbus acting port director Edward Sinderson said this arrest reinforces that smugglers come in all ages, noting that they recently intercepted a high school-age student and now a man in his sixties.
