Luna County 4-H is an award-winning organization at the state level and often a contender at the national level. Members recently brought home state championships in Agronomy, Wildlife Habitat Evaluation, Public Speaking and 4-H Rodeo.
The chile roasting fundraiser helps supplement the many civic-minded and charitable causes that 4-H members support, including the annual shopping spree at Peppers Supermarket to fill the pantry of The Healing House, Luna County’s shelter for survivors of domestic violence.
Luna County 4-Hers also are responsible for cleaning up the grounds before and after the Southwestern New Mexico State Fair.
Roasted chile will be available Saturday, August 27th, and Sunday, August 28th, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. both days, at the Luna County Extension Office, 210-B Poplar Street, across from the historic Luna County Courthouse.
A sack of mild or hot roasted chile will be $25, and a sack of chile roasted and freezer-ready will be $35. Each sack weighs approximately 35 pounds and is courtesy of Penn Farms.
