
![]() (Deming) - Organizers Amy Donaker and Wendy Church of the "Memorial Barrel Race in Memory of Steve Hazelton" which was held at the City of Deming Arena on March 9 raised money for two deserving organizations. A check for $2,500 was giving to the Deming Luna Cancer Support with a matching check of $2,500 from the Freeport/McMoran Copper and Gold Mines (Chino Mines) for a total of $5,000. The New Mexico Leukemia Association is also receiving $2,500 from the barrel race organizers and a matching fund for the same amount from the mining company. The event brought in 150 rodeo participates in the the barrel race competition. The City of Deming Arena host rodeos most weekends. The Facility can be booked for those interested in hosting a rodeo by calling the City of Deming at (575) 546-8848. Participates came from Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and as far as Kansas. Local hotels, restaurant's and local businesses benefited from the event.
