KOTS-AM Station Profile
KOTS-AM is locally owned and operated in Deming, New Mexico. Our main objective is helping assure the prosperity of Deming, and we do this by making Deming people, events and businesses our sole focus. Deming and Luna County's population is approximately 16,000, with the city located on Interstate 10, about 30 miles from the Mexican border. Tourism is a major industry, as is agriculture. Deming also sports additional winter visitors, and has a growing retirement population. Deming has obtained national stature with its annual "Great American Duck Race" each August. KOTS plays only the best country music from today along with hits from the 1990's, 1980's and before. The bright, fun presentation by our radio personalities keeps listeners tuned in. And all the country superstars are heard on KOTS, including classic country artists often overlooked by other stations. KOTS broadcasts the popular "Mainstream Country" satellite format from Westwood One, America's #1 radio network. The live format is strong all across the 25-54 age demographic, with emphasis on 31-49 year olds. KOTS is affiliated with the Associated Press news network and carries five minutes of AP network news at the top of the hour 24 hours a day. In addition, KOTS provides local and state news throughout the day. We are the only agricultural news source in the area, providing market updates and commodity information weekday mornings. And we are the only station providing complete coverage of Deming High School varsity boys football and basketball, plus additional coverage of baseball and girls varsity sports. In addition to high school sports, KOTS carries New Mexico State University Aggie football and basketball. New Mexico State is a pioneer agricultural college, located about 60 miles east in Las Cruces. KOTS-AM is on the air 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Remotes/Bonuses KDEM-FM and KOTS-AM constantly take our broadcasts to various locations around town, and traditionally have made regular stops at the Southwestern New Mexico State Fair, The Great American Duck Race and various businesses. Our cost to broadcast live is $120 per hour (gross) with talent fees included. Also included in our flat per-hour fee are five 15-second announcements each day for five days prior to the remote. You can double your coverage with our simulcast remote. Bilingual remotes also are available. In addition we offer a bonus on our overnight show. You can double your spots between 7pm and 6am on KDEM or KOTS for an additional 20 percent. For example, buy $100 worth of spots during our daytime broadcast and receive the same number of spots overnight for just $20. El Super Taconazo The KOTS-AM Spanish Show The program airs Monday through Friday from 5:30 pm to 7 pm and is hosted by Danny Rodriguez, a well-know local personality and mid-high teacher/counselor/coach. Spanish-language programming has been a part of KOTS-AM since the station went on the air in 1954. The show's continuity has been maintained through a turnover of only three announcers in its 46 year history. Over 40 percent of Luna County's population is Hispanic, with many residents naturalized citizens or first and second generation Americans. Because "El Super Taconazo" is an established program with a known host, its listener loyalty is high. It also is the only source for Spanish-language news and information, was well as traditional contemporary Mexican music, in this part of New Mexico. Anyone familiar with spoken Spanish in New Mexico realizes that different geographical regions influence the language. "El Super Taconazo" is targeted specifically to the Hispanic population of southwestern New Mexico. |
