SEPTEMBER
Deming Arts Center has arranged for two exceptional artists that are sure to delight the senses.
Deming-born, Marie Yvette Hurley, and well-known New Mexican potter, Antha Wilhite Walker.
The boundless creativity of these two women in many different mediums is truly astounding.
They will have numerous pieces of pottery and artwork on display and for sale starting September 4, 2014 and through the rest of the month.
Sunday, September 7, from 1-3 pm will be the reception for the public to meet these two amazing artists. The Deming Arts Center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm and admission is free.
Marie Yvette Hurley became interested in art at the age of 8 years. Her expertise includes oil, watercolor, acrylics, charcoal and pencil, photography and sculptures. Her award-winning work has been shown in Abilene, Texas, Las Cruces, NM and Truth or Consequences, and she was selected as ‘artist of the week’ by S. Derrickson Moore for the Las Cruces Sun News.
Antha Walker grew up in Albuquerque and began her artistic pursuits in photography and pottery. She has worked with glaze pottery and moved on to mostly horsehair potter. She is self-taught in oil, watercolor and acrylic. Currently, Antha is involved in “Encaustic Painting”, a new medium which involves the use of heated wax, beeswax and resin.
This project is supported in part by New Mexico Arts, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, and by the National Endowment for the Arts.
