Please join Audubon for an informational presentation on, “Mining The Floridas” this Tuesday, November 14th at 5:15 p.m. at La Fonda Restaurant located at 601 E Pine St in Deming, New Mexico.
A proposal is currently pending with the US Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to mine Dolomite from the Florida Mountains overlooking Columbus Road which would require blasting to break the rock for excavation. The resulting rock would be trucked to the Peru Mill Industrial Park north of Deming for processing to extract magnesium.
The guest speaker will be a representative of "Friends of the Floridas", a citizens group serving the information needs of those who want to know what is going on with the proposed mining project.
This event is free and open to the public.
