School Supply Donations Being Collected

(Deming) - School supplies are being collected to help kids that need help here in Deming.  So far, about 60 kids have been helped with supplies, but still have about 40 on the list yet and out of supplies.  Any donations of supplies help, even if just a dollar or two worth of notebooks, glue sticks, pencils or other supplies.  They can be dropped at the office of Wilson's Accounting & Tax Service @ 918 W Walnut, off 8th street.

Elks First Annual Rib Cook-off

(Deming)--Deming Elks #2750 held their First Annual Rib Cook-off on Saturday (July 26th), with nine team competing for prizes and money.   
   First Place went to a team headed by Daniel Mesa, who received a trophy and $225.  Second Place was awarded to Britany Lopez, who works as a volunteer bartender at the Elks.  She won a trophy and $75.  Third place went to Manny Murrufo, who received a trophy and $50.   
    More than 100 attended the one day event, including New Mexico Elks Association State President Lyle Week and his wife Pat from Alamogordo.  Also present was the Elks Most Valuable Student recipient Brannick Sweetser and his family.  Brannick was awarded a $4000 scholarship through the Elks National Foundation and plans to attend Texas A & M.
   "All the ribs were great" said Elks Exalted Ruler (Local President) George Torres.  "It was tough to judge".    Judges this year were Elks State President Weeks, Deming Mayor and Member Benny Jasso, and Deming Elks Life Member Ollie Cooper.    Proceeds after expenses will be donated to Foster kids.

Wildcat Football Golf Scramble

(Deming) - Wildcat Football Golf Scramble 2014, Saturday August 9th. Place: Rio Mimbres Country Club.
Shot gun scramble is at 9:30 am, Registration is 75.00 per player, no handicap restrictions.

This includes Green Fee, Golf cart, Breakfast and Lunch, Goodie bags. Shotgun start, Mulligan string available. 4 Man Scramble {Best ball}.

Prizes awarded for closest to the pin, and the Quarterback Challenge. Trophies awarded to the Top Two Teams and the Most Honest Team.  Putting Contest: 3 consecutive putts wins $5,000 dollars.

Hole sponsors available for 100.00 dollars. Registration available the morning of.

Deming Intermediate School Schedule and Registration Dates

(Deming) - Students Schedules and New Student Registration Dates for Deming Intermediate School – 6th Grade.
   Deming Intermediate School sixth graders will pick up their 2014-2015 schedules on Wednesday, August 13th and Thursday, August 14th. Schedules may be picked up between 9:00-11:30AM and 1:00-3:30PM on those days.
   Students who do not complete pre-registration at their elementary schools or who are new to Deming will need to register for classes on August 15th between the hours of 9:00-11:30am and 1:00-3:30pm.

Luna County Cooperative Extension office accepting applications for Master Gardeners

New Mexico State University’s Luna County Cooperative Extension office is accepting applications for certified Master Gardeners. The weekly classes begin on Aug. 21, 2014 via Web meetings at Luna County Extension Office, 210 B Poplar. They will be conducted by live feed from the Dona Ana County Extension Office.

Applicants are required to complete the 15-week Master Gardener classes and a 50-hour internship, which consists of 25 hours of answering questions on the hotline and 25 hours of additional community-based volunteer activities. To maintain certification, Master Gardeners must volunteer at least 50 hours each year.

The Master Gardener classes meet from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays from Aug. 21 until December 11, 2014. The course cost $95 for individuals or $150 for commercial applicants and includes class materials. Maximum space will be limited to 10 people.

Applications are due on July 25 and forms are available at the Luna County Cooperative Extension office, 210 B Poplar.

Youth Football Camp      
For Ages 5-12 years of age     
Dates: July 31 -August 1     
Times for the camp will be: 8 am to 12 pm each day     
Sign ups at Pepper's July 14-25     
Times for sign ups 6 pm-9 pm      
There will be sign ups the morning of Camp.      
The Cost will be 25.00 for each player. For more than one child it will be 20.00 per child     
Dress for the camp will be t-shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes

    The Museum will re-open on Monday August 4th. Thank you for your understanding from the Deming Luna County Historical Board.

WILL PRESENT A SUMMER CAMP FOR BEGINNING AND ADVANCED GUITAR AND VIOLIN STUDENTS
Director: Mr. Paul Smith

Where: Hofacket Campus (at Deming High School) Room 39 Mariachi Room
When: July 21- Aug 1. Classes will run from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Mon.-Fri. Register for classes: Monday July 21at 8 a.m.
Who: Students 4th grade-12th grade.

No Instrument? No worries! Rental instruments are available for $10. The camp is free!!!

Class schedule:
9:00-10:30 a.m.-Beginning Violin
10:30-12:00 a.m.-Beginning Guitar
12:00-1:00 p.m.-lunch
1:00-3:00 p.m.-Advanced Guitar
