Deming-Luna County Humane Society’s fundraiser

Plan to bring out the tuxedo, show your tails, dust off that old top hat and put on your best dress next month for this year’s Deming-Luna County Humane Society’s Lucky 7 fundraiser.

Humane Society President Sande Foster said this year’s event, set for Saturday, March 22nd, is called Puttin’ on the Fritz.

She said they hope people will dress up just for fun, but supporters also are welcome to come as they are.

The evening will feature a dinner of chicken cordon bleu and other selections catered by La Fonda Restaurant, a bar hosted by the Lazy Lizard Lounge, entertainment provided by The Yarbrough Band, a live and silent auction, and a cash prize of $10,000 to one lucky winner.

Auction items include a 10x10 dog kennel, an oil painting of the Florida Mountains, an antique chair and cedar chest, and various trip packages.

Tickets are $125 per couple and can be purchased at Circle S Western Emporium, 400 West Pine, or at the Deming Animal Shelter, 2125 Onate Road Southeast,

NMSU University Singers to perform OF EARTH, AIR AND RAIN

On Friday, February 21 at 7:00 PM the New Mexico State University Department of Music will present "Of Earth, Air and Rain" under the direction of Director of Choral Activities David A. Klement at First United Methodist Church, located at 1020 S. Granite St. in Deming NM.

The NMSU University Singers will perform music reflecting on the season of spring. Choral selections include music of the Renaissance through the 21st century and feature selections by English composers Benjamin Britten and Orlando Gibbons, as well as music by Brahms, David Dickau and Erik Esenvalds.

The University Singers is a select mixed chamber ensemble of approximately 25 auditioned voices specializing in a cappella repertoire from the sixteenth through twenty-first centuries. Members are mostly upper-level undergraduate students with strong sight-reading skills and vocal ability. The University Singers perform in multiple concerts and by invitation each year. In addition, the choir engages in a series of annual choir mini-tours. This ensemble has toured to places like Lincoln Center in New York City, the National Cathedral in Washington, DC and has toured internationally to Spain, Germany, Austria, London and Scotland and Italy. This choir has also performed for three Southwestern American Choral Directors Association Regional Conventions. Scholarships are available for members of this choir.

This concert is FREE of charge.
