Red Mountain Middle School Plans Valentine’s Day Carnival

(Deming) - Red Mountain Middle School is planning a Valentine Carnival for Friday, February 5, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00PM. 

This carnival will benefit the Enrichment Students planning a trip to Washington, D.C. in May. 

Many family-oriented games and activities are planned; a jumping balloon, putt-putt golf, cake/book walk, bowling, face painting, photo booth, Frisbee throw, and more.

The concession stand will be selling pizza, hot dogs and more. 

​Please come out with the family for an evening of food and fun!

VALENTINE’S DAY PROCEDURES
Deming High School will accept deliveries for Valentine’s Day, Thursday, February 11, 2016.
The following procedures will be followed:
Deliveries will only be accepted from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the outside double doors of the Hofacket campus gym . We will begin announcing ticket numbers for delivery pick up at 1:52 p.m. during 6th hour.
Any clubs or organizations selling candy grams or any other items will be responsible for delivering these items. They cannot be dropped off at the Hofacket campus gym for delivery.
Individual students that bring gifts will be responsible for delivering they gift; please do not bring these items to the gym.
Staff members; please assist us in directing all deliveries to the Hofacket campus gym between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. We are asking that you not accept any deliveries in your areas.
Faculty, parents, and community members:
Please use the NEW parent parking spaces located immediately outside of the Hofacket campus gym on this date.
DEMING HIGH SCHOOL IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST OR UNDELIVERED ITEMS!


UPCOMING EVENTS:
 Monday, February 8 – Thursday, February 11- WNMU week- Details will be e-mailed from Mrs. Perales.
 Monday, February 8- SCA testing will begin- Math, English, Science- 9 th and 10th grade. Tuesday, Feb.
 Wednesday, February 10- Senior pictures- Auditorium. Details will be e-mailed out by Ms. Jones.
 Wednesday, February 10- 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.- A Day in the PARCC- In math and English classrooms. Modified schedule. There will be no 3rd hour on this date, 2nd hour will be extended.
 Thursday, February 11- 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.- Valentine’s Day deliveries will be accepted at Hofacket Gym from Florists and parents. Student numbers will be called down during 6th and 7th hour.
 Friday, February 12- In-service Day- no students.
 Monday, February 15- Presidents Day- no students or staff.  Monday, February 15- Aggie Experience Day- Juniors or seniors that are interested in attending please see Mrs. Perales for more information.
 Thursday, February 18- 8:30 .m.-9:30 a.m.-NM Tech will be meeting with juniors and seniors interested in NM Tech in Socorro, NM.
 Monday, February 22- Parent Teacher Conference/No Students  Wednesday, February 24- The University of New Mexico located in Albuquerque, NM will be here at 10:00 a.m. in Mrs. Perales office to meet with any interested juniors or seniors.
 Friday, February 26- End of 4th grading period.

            Guardian Anti-Bullying Live Action Show Presents “The Turtles” in Lordsburg
Everyone has dealt with bullying in some form or fashion while growing up. The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office/ D.A.R.E., recognizes that bullying continuous to be an issue in our communities and they want to help put an end to it.
On Saturday, February 20, 2016 the Sheriff’s Office/ D.A.R.E will be teaming up with the Anti-Bullying Campaign towards prevention efforts against bullying. Xtreme Force Live Action will be presenting “The Turtles” at the Central School in Lordsburg. This is an event for the whole family.
The show is full of martial arts action and has a powerful anti-bullying message. The performers are some of the top martial artists in the country and bring talent, comedy, and a positive message to the stage.
HCSO are extremely grateful towards our sponsors: City of Lordsburg, Lordsburg/ Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce, McDonald’s of Lordsburg, Days Inn of Lordsburg, Valero Corner Store, and the Lordsburg Public Schools for their continuous support. General Admission Tickets will be available for purchase at the Sheriff’s Office and the Chamber of Commerce. There will be two shows to choose from, the first beginning at 2pm and 6pm. General Admission cost will be $8 for youth (ages 2-12) and $10 for adults (ages 13 and up). Tickets for Meet/ Greet and Exclusive VIP, will only be available to purchase online. Seating will be limited.

Deming School Board set to Decide on Calendar Change

Deming School Board members will decide the calendar of the 2016-2017 school year at their regular monthly meeting this Thursday. 

Anyone with input on the calendar – or who is interested in finding out more about the proposed change to an extended calendar which limits the students’ summer break in exchange for additional breaks through the school year – is encouraged to attend. 

​The meeting is set to begin at 5 p.m. this Thursday, January 28th, in the board room of the 
Emmett Shockley Administration Building, 400 Cody Road.

  • ACCESS testing- We will begin our ACCESS testing this Tuesday, please refer to the lists posted on the main campus and Hofacket campus library windows for testing locations and date of testing. Each student will only test one morning, not all 3 mornings.
  • Junior Humane Society students and any other interested students: We will be meeting this Friday at lunch at the main campus library conference room. We will also be volunteering this Saturday at the Animal Shelter at 11:00 a.m.
  • Friday, Feb. 5- Dona Ana Community College from Las Cruces, NM will be here from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Mrs. Perales office to meet with any interested juniors or seniors.
  • Juniors or seniors that are interested in attending Aggie Experience Day on Monday, February 15, 2016, please see Mrs. Perales for more information.

Scholarship opportunities:
The New Mexico Activities and Athletic Association has 4 scholarships for high school seniors available. Those that participate in an activity or athletics and have a 3.0 GPA can come by Mrs. Perales’ office to get more information. The deadline is TODAY, MONDAY, JAN. 25.
 
The NM Coalition of Educational Leaders- Students that plan on becoming teachers, counselors or school business officials; must have a 3.0 GPA-deadline is Monday, Feb. 1- Please see Mrs. Perales for application.
 
Seniors and Graduating juniors:  The Columbus Electric Cooperative Scholarship is now available.  If your family receives their electricity from Columbus Electric you may qualify.  Please come by to see Mrs. Perales for the application.  The application is due to Mrs. Perales by Friday, Feb. 19.
 
Senior females- The Rachel Herrera Scholarship is open to females that have a 3.25 GPA and are very active in the community.  The application can be found on the high school web site under local scholarships.  The deadline is Friday, April 15, 2016.

Red Mountain Middle School will be having a VALENTINE'S   Day Carnival on February  5th from 5 until 8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.

The carnival will provide the community with fun while also giving students the opportunity to earn money for their trip to Washington DC and Philadelphia this spring.

​Tickets will be sold at the door. Please come join us for this fun evening.

    There are so many of great community events  happening.  Share them with us here - please keep a couple of rules in  mind:  Please be sure to give all your details, email contact and list your  website to link to if you have one.  Organizations that disclose there is a  charge to gain entry to their event may be required to present proof of their  non-profit status (501C3 form). Airtime is limited and there is no guarantee  that public service announcements will run on the radio.
    Remember to submit your information early. (2-3 weeks in advance)
