(Deming) – Deming’s assistant police chief will serve as interim chief.
Mayor Andres Silva told the Deming Headlight that Assistant Chief Brandon Gigante will serve as chief until Silva makes a recommendation to the city council to approve the next appointee.
Chiefs and department heads serve at the pleasure of the mayor.
Gigante was appointed to fill the newly created position of assistant chief last summer – presumably to help transition the department with the impending retirement of Chief Michael Carillo.
Carillo announced this week that he is resigning effective March 15th to become the director of the new Grant County Detention Center.
Carillo had made it known that he planned to retire this calendar year, but said the Grant County opportunity was the challenge he was looking for and decided to resign and change positions instead.
