(Deming) – Small gas leaks were  discovered last week at
Deming Intermediate School.

Associate  Superintendent Mary Lou Cameron said the pin-hole size leaks caused by aging  equipment were repaired immediately by a licensed plumber.

She stressed that the students  were safe at all times, and that students working in rooms with the equipment  were relocated while repairs were made and rooms aired.

Cameron said numerous officials including  Deming Fire Department Captain Raul Mercado, Deming Public Schools Safety  Officer Benny Jasso, Director of Maintenance Benny Ornelas and licensed plumber Manny Marrufo inspected all Deming Intermediate School rooms and verified that the building was safe.

She added that the school  district’s maintenance staff uses protocols that meet national standards, and  they appreciate the close working relationship with the Deming Fire Department  in keeping buildings safe for students.
