(Deming) – A man shot while at the rest stop between Deming and Silver City has been identified.
Luna County Undersheriff Arturo Baeza said it appears 44-year-old Eric Arzate of Las Cruces was shot in the back early Monday morning.
Baeza said Arzate was driven by private vehicle to Silver City and then airlifted to El Paso following the shooting.His condition was not immediately known.
Arzate was with a Silver City woman at the time of the shooting – which was approximately 2 Monday morning – and Baeza said investigators were attempting to locate her to find out more about the incident.
Reportedly, she is the one who called 911 and drove Arzate to the Silver City hospital.
Baeza said an investigator would interview Arzate as soon as he was able to be questioned.
