(Deming) – Saturday members of the Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society  will lead a guided tour of old Fort Bayard and open the Fort Bayard Museum for visitors.

Fort Bayard, whose roots stretch  to 1866, was designated as
a national historic landmark in 2004. It has been a  New Mexico historic district since 2001.

The two-hour tour will  be led by Kathy Hill, who lived at Fort Bayard during the Veteran’s  Administration years, and Richard Mitchem, a military  historian.

Museum time will be  scheduled after the tour, which begins at 9:30 Saturday  morning.

All ages are  welcome.  Participants are  encouraged to dress for the weather and moderate walking.

Cost will be $3 per  person or $10 per family.   The gift shop in the  museum will be open after
the tour.
