(Deming) – The Luna County  Commissioners will meet in
regular session Thursday.

Included on the agenda  is consideration of  comments from the county’s Gray Wolf Advisory Committee,  which has recommended the county ask the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to  remove from consideration  for wolf recolonization any area below Interstate 10,  request a current Environmental Impact Statement on the area, and prepare for  litigation against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service if it does not  agree.

The commissioners also  will consider extending the time frame of a letter of intent signed by Bencor  representing Walgreens to lease land off North Gold.The amendment would extend the  feasibility period of the agreement, which is set to expire March  7th, through June 1st.Bencor representatives say they cannot  complete their environmental studies until the buildings are down, which is  happening this week.

Other agenda items  include a draft of a Luna  County Road Atlas by Planning Director Gabriel Boyle… a presentation on the  Deming Historical Society by local historian Bayne  Anderson… and the presentation of a service award to Margaret Zamora for 10  years at the Detention Center.

The meeting is set to  begin at 9 a.m. Thursday in the commission chambers, located on the third floor  of the Luna County Courthouse.The  meeting is open to the public.
