(Deming) – Deming’s impressive  speller has struck
again.

11-year-old Elena  Williams correctly spelled “perforate” to win the Deming Public School’s  Spelling Bee Thursday.

Williams, a  7th grade homeschooled student, has won the local bee four of the  last five years, and placed second on her “off” year.

She also placed second  last year at the Regional Bee in El Paso. The runner-up in this  year’s bee was Arlan Dawdy, a 5th grader from Chaparral.   The bee went 15 rounds  and started with 42 contestants.

Williams received a  trophy, certificate and $100 gift card to Starmax.Dawdy received a trophy, certificate and $50 gift card.

Williams and the top  spellers from each local school will compete at the Regional Bee in El Paso  later this month.
