(Deming) – A number of accidents  occurred on the interstate just east of Deming Thursday afternoon as the  temperatures began to drop and the road surface became slick.

Local law enforcement  officials said the area most affected was near mile-marker 93 where several  drivers lost control, slid off the interstate or struck other vehicles.  None of the accidents resulted in  life-threatening injuries.

Accident reports on  I-10 began coming in about 5 p.m. Thursday, and the interstate was closed about  midnight and not fully reopened until about 9 a.m. Friday.

Otherwise, road  conditions around Luna County were reported as snow-packed and icy in spots, but drivers were exercising caution, slowing down and being courteous, so even minor  fender-benders were few.
