(Deming) – The Deming-Luna County  Chamber of Commerce is
hosting a School Board Candidate Forum  Tuesday.

A media release said  the Deming Public School  District is the 15th largest district out of  87 in New Mexico, and that concerns of the education of Luna County children  have been an ongoing discussion throughout the community.

As such, the media release  said, the chamber is hosting a forum for the seven individuals running for the  two seats – District One and District Two – on the ballot this election cycle.

In District One,  incumbent David McSherry, who is running for a third term on the board, is being  challenged by Ronald Wolfe.

And five candidates are vying to  replace District Two member Anne Keeler, who did not seek  reelection.


Those five are Mickey Hamilton,  Jr., Frederick Metcalf, Kenneth Perea, Phillip Skinner and John  Sweetser.

The forum will include statements  from the candidates and questions from the audience written on index cards and  reviewed by chamber board members.

It is set to run from 6-8 p.m.  Tuesday in the Historic Train Depot off North Country Club Road next to  Starmax.It is open to the  public.
