(Deming) -- The Deming-Luna County Chamber of Commerce 
celebrated its year with a 1950s sock hop and awards banquet Saturday Night.

The organization used the evening to officially pass the  gavel from 2012 president Gary Meyers to 2013 president Jessica  Johnson-Etcheverry.

According to the Deming Headlight, the Outstanding Citizens  of the Year were twins Gertrude and Geraldine Kretek.

The top Businessperson of the Year for 2012 was Lois Tharp of  Tharp’s Flowers.

The top New Business of the Year was Benji’s  Restaurant.

The top Agribusiness of the Year for 2012 was Hartman Farms,  owned by Don and Cheryl Hartman.

And the top Education Person of the Year  was Deming High School agriculture teacher and FFA advisor Larry Von Tress.
