(Deming) -- Anyone interested in running for a seat on the
Deming Public School Board must file a declaration of candidacy next  Tuesday.

Two seats are up for election in this cycle: District One, currently held by David  McSherry, and District Two, currently held by Anne Keeler.

McSherry has expressed an interest in running for a third  term on the board, but Keeler has said she will not run again.

Declarations of candidacy and a sworn statement of intent  must be filed with the Luna County Clerk's office between the hours of 9 a.m.  and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18th.

Candidates must have been residents of the district they wish  to represent as of November 27th of this year.

Questions about district boundaries should be directed to the  county clerk's office.

The election will be held Tuesday, February 5th, 2013.

County Clerk Karen Smyer said it will be a countywide  election, because there is a question for all Luna County voters requesting the  continuation of a 2-mill levy for capital improvements in
the  district.

The election of the two school board seats will appear only  on the respective districts’
ballots.  Voter registration closes January  8th.
