(Deming) - Three boys and three girls, ages 8 to 13 won the first round of competition in the  Elks ―Hoop Shoot® free throw contest at Red Mountain Middle School in Deming on Saturday, December 8th and have been named Deming champions. 

In the 8-9 year old division, for the Girls, the winner was Harmonie Dominguez, with second place going to Jasmeen  Aldaco.  For the Boys, the winner was Eric Corona, with second place, determined in the shoot out, going to Kevin Loredo.

In the 10-11 year old division, for the Girls, the winner was Kamryn Zacheck, with second going to Keisha  Dominguez.  In the Boys competition, the winner was Bryan Loredo, with second place, also determined by a shoot out, going to Jesse Varela.

In the 12-13 year old division, for the Girls, there was only one participant, and first place went to Graciela  Gallosa.  For the Boys, First place went to Nicholas Guiterrez, with second going to Jose Jurado.
    
First place certificates were awarded to one boy and one girl in each of the three categories: ages 8 to 9; 10 to 11; and 12 to 13.  All the winners received basketballs donated by the local NAPA auto parts store, and hooded sweat shirts.  All participants were also treated to pizza and sodas. 
 
 
   
The six champions now advance to the district finals tentatively at Las Cruces on January 26th where they will compete with other winners from throughout the area (Lordsburg, Las Cruces, Silver City, Deming and Alamogordo).  If the winner cannot make the district hoop shoot, then second place winners will be asked to compete.
