Deming) – The Deming Elks Lodge  recently distributed 600 dictionaries to third graders in Deming and Truth or  Consequences, and donated
teddy bears to the Deming Police  Department.

The dictionaries were  distributed last week as part of the Elks National Dictionary Project– a project  funded, in part, through money raised by the lodge’s weekly bingo on Monday nights.

And the 20 teddy bears  were donated to be used on police calls involving young  children.

Reportedly, the bears  have a calming effect when given to children involved in traumatic  situations.

Exalted Ruler George  Torres said charitable activities are what the Elks are all about. The Elks also participate in Coats for  Kids, Shop with a Cop, and various other youth and veterans  events.
