Sgt. Mullen, a Deming resident, suffered a heart attack on the night of September 28th, and his
son, Chris, was the first to administer CPR to him.
Soon afterward, Deming Police Lt. Kathleen Schindler and Sgt. Derrick Lovelace arrived on scene to assist, followed by Deming Fire Department EMTs Lt. Kevin Hensley, Fernando Arenibas and Antionette Calderon.
Mullen was stabilized, and then airlifted to Las Cruces.
State Department of Public Safety Special Investigations Division Director Bill Hubbard said a near tragedy turned into a celebration, thanks to the six individuals responsible for the initial
life-saving responses.
Hubbard presented all six with certificates and challenge coins Wednesday.
Hubbard added that Sgt. Mullen was recovering and looking forward to returning to work.
