(Deming) – Six people who helped save the life of Department  of Public Safety Sgt. Lee Mullen were honored Wednesday in  Deming.

 Sgt. Mullen, a Deming resident, suffered a heart attack on the night of  September 28th, and his
son, Chris, was the first to administer CPR  to him.

Soon afterward, Deming Police Lt. Kathleen Schindler and Sgt. Derrick  Lovelace arrived on scene to assist, followed by Deming Fire Department EMTs Lt.  Kevin Hensley, Fernando Arenibas and Antionette Calderon. 

Mullen was stabilized, and then airlifted to Las Cruces.

State Department of Public Safety Special Investigations Division  Director Bill Hubbard said a near tragedy turned into a celebration, thanks to  the six individuals responsible for the initial
life-saving  responses.

Hubbard presented all six with certificates and challenge coins  Wednesday. 

Hubbard added that Sgt. Mullen was recovering and looking forward to  returning to work.
