(Deming) – If you stop by the Deming Elks Lodge on a Friday, you’re bound to see a lot of red – red shirts that is, worn in support of our fighting men and women.
The red-shirt effort, spearheaded by member Martha Johnson, is a reminder that Elks members support our brave troops stationed in harms’ way.
In fact, the special red shirts worn by at least 70 local Elks members, sport the patriotic language: “Land of the Free Because of the Brave.”
The Red-Shirt Friday idea is patterned after a V-F-W post in Show Low, Arizona.
Proceeds from the sale of the red shirts go to the New Mexico Elks Wounded Warriors Project.
The local lodge presented a nearly 400-dollar check to Elks State President Roger Hamman of Roswell during his recent visit.
