(Deming) -- Deming Mayor Andres Silva has proclaimed this week -- May 1st through the 7th -- as Youth Week in Deming, to coincide with the Elks organization's National Youth Week.
Members of the Local Elks Lodge were on hand, together with community youth, as the mayor signed the proclamation Tuesday.
Officials says the proclamation is intended to demonstrate the Elks' partnership with youth, as
well as their hopes, aspirations and sincere willingness to help prepare youth in every way for the responsibilities and opportunities of citizenship.
The Elks believe that youth need guidance, inspiration and encouragement in order to help develop those qualities of character essential for future leadership.
Elks members have planned several pizza parties this week for local youth at the lodge at 3401 Raymond Reed Boulevard as part of Deming Youth Week.
