The Deming High School Junior R-O-T-C academic team has advanced to Level Two of the Junior R-O-T-C Leadership and Academic Bowl.
The local team competed against nearly 16-hundred teams from around the world in an online competition called "Zero Hour Threat" to earn the right to advance to Level Two.
Team members are, alphabetically: C-J Crawford, Giezi De Los Reyes, Omar Hidalgo, Tyler Prinz, Lester Voorhies, and Craig Weise. Instructors are Tim Timmons and Anthony Ramirez.
Reportedly, one of the main goals of the Junior R-O-T-C Academic Bowl is to prepare students for state exit and graduation exams, as well as college entrance exams such as the A-C-T and S-A-T.
In each level of the competition, the fast-paced event tests the students' knowledge using A-C-T-type questions in the areas of Junior R-O-T-C curriculum, English, math and science.
The level two online competition concludes Wednesday and then 24 academic teams will advance to the 2012 Army Junior R-O-T-C Leadership Symposium and Academic Bowl Championship in Washington, D-C, on the campus of George Mason University in June.
The winner of the Army Junior R-O-T-C Academic Championship will compete against the winners of the Air Force and Navy Junior R-O-T-C academic bowls in a newly established tri-service competition.
