(Deming) – Voting for the February 5th school  election begins this Friday with paper ballot, and next Wednesday with  electronic voting.

County Clerk Andrea Rodriguez said it is a  county-wide election with a  question before all Luna County voters on the
continuation of a two-mill levy  for capital improvements in the
district. 
Also, five people are vying for  an open seat on the Deming  Public School Board, while an incumbent is facing an opponent in the other seat  up for election.

In  District One, incumbent David McSherry, who is running for a third term on the  board, is being
challenged by Ronald Wolfe.

And five candidates have thrown their hats in the ring for  the District Two seat currently held by Anne Keeler, who is not seeking  reelection.

Those five are, alphabetically, Mickey Hamilton, Jr.,  Frederick Metcalf, Kenneth Perea, Phillip Skinner and John  Sweetser.

The election will be held Tuesday, February  5th.

(Deming) – Today is General Election Day… and polls in Luna
County are open until 7  p.m.

There are a  number of races of local interest.

Incumbent District 35 State Senator Democrat John Arthur Smith of  Deming is facing Republican Russell Allen of Las  Cruces.

Incumbent District 32 State  Representative Democrat Dona Irwin is challenged by Republican Thomas Guerra.

Democrat Francesca Estevez is  facing Republican George Zsoka for the position of Sixth Judicial District Attorney.

Democrat Jennifer DeLaney is facing Republican Jarod Hofacket for the position of Sixth Judicial District Court Judge.

Incumbent Luna County District Three  Commissioner Javier Diaz, a Democrat, has two opponents: Republican Philip  Skinner and Independent Martha Long.

And on the ballot unopposed are Democrat  Andrea Rodriguez for Luna County Clerk, and incumbent Democrat Dora Madrid for  Luna County Treasurer.

Just over  one-third of Luna County’s registered voters had cast ballots for today’s 2012  general election prior to the polls opening this morning.

 Luna County Clerk Karen  Smyer said 34% – or 3,670 registered voters – had taken advantage of early and  absentee voting by the time the polls closed Saturday. Luna County has 12,612 registered  voters.

(Deming) --  The General Election will be tomorrow.  Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to  7 p.m. for voters who did not vote early or absentee.

The two polling location  changes that were in effect for
the June primary remain in effect for Tuesday,  and from now on.

The Mimbres Valley Learning  Center, which was an early
voting location open to all county voters, on Tuesday  will only be a voting location for persons residing in Precinct Three – those  voters who previously voted at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

The other change is Precinct  Thirteen. Those voters now vote at  the Sunshine Volunteer Fire Department instead of Sunshine  School.

(Deming) – Officials say just  over one-third of Luna County’s registered voters have already cast ballots for  Tuesday’s 2012 general election.

Luna County Clerk Karen  Smyer said 34% – or 3,670 registered voters – had taken advantage of early and  absentee voting by the time the polls closed Saturday.Luna County has 12,612 registered  voters.

Smyer said the count was down  from 2008 – the last presidential election – when Luna County saw a total voter  turnout of 68%, 41% of those voting early or absentee.

 Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to  7 p.m. Tuesday for voters who did not vote early or absentee.

(Deming) – Voters wanting to vote early for the November
6th general election  have until next Saturday, November 3rd, to do so.

County Clerk Karen  Smyer said early voting is taking place in her office on the first floor of the  Luna County Courthouse
weekdays from 8 to 5.

Voters also may vote  early at the Mimbres Valley Learning and Special Events Center Tuesday through  Friday from 11 to 7 and Saturday from 9 to 5.

And there’s one other  option: Smyer said voters will be able to vote early at the Courthouse next  Saturday, November 3rd, from 10 to 6.  Early voting ends next  Saturday.

Smyer said voters also  may request an application and absentee ballot be mailed to them. The last day the clerk may mail an  absentee ballot to an applicant is next Friday, November 2nd.

(Deming) – Voters who would like to vote in the November 6th general election  but who are not currently
registered to vote have less than three weeks to  register. 

County Clerk Karen  Smyer said voter registration for the November 6th general election  will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9th. 

And Smyer said that  same day – Tuesday, October 9th – is the first day a voter may cast a  paper absentee ballot or vote in person on an electronic voting system in the clerk’s office. 

Early voting continues  through Saturday, November 3rd.

Voters also may request  an application and absentee ballot to be mailed to them. The last day the clerk may mail an  absentee ballot to an applicant is Friday, November  2nd.

(Deming) -- Time is running out for anyone wishing to vote in the June 5th primary election who is not already registered to vote in Luna County. The deadline to register is 5 p-m this coming Tuesday, May 8th.
    Voter registration forms may be requested by calling the Luna County clerk's office at 546-0491 or stopping by the office in the courthouse.
    Luna County Clerk Karen Smyer said that because New Mexico is a "closed primary" state, only voters affiliated with the Democrat or Republican parties are eligible to cast a ballot in June.
    All registered voters can vote in the November general election.
    Also, early voting begins Tuesday. Any registered Democrat or Republican may vote in person at the county clerk's office beginning Tuesday. Voters also may request an application and absentee ballot to be mailed to their home.
    Early voting will take place weekdays from 8 a-m to 5 p-m in the county clerk's office.
    The last day to apply and vote in person at the county clerk's office will be Saturday, June 2nd from 10 a-m to 6 p-m.
    Also, the Mimbres Valley Learning Center will be open for early voting beginning Saturday, May 19th through Saturday, June 2nd. Ballots may be cast at the learning center Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a-m to 7 p-m, and Saturdays from 9 to 5.
In other news... Smyer reminds voters that Knights of Columbus and Sunshine School are no longer designated polling places.
Registrants in Precinct Three now cast their ballot at the Mimbres Valley Learning Center, 2300 East Pine.
And the new polling location for Precinct Thirteen is the Sunshine Volunteer Fire Department, 965 Sunshine Road Southwest.
