(Deming) -- Luna County's unemployment rate in February
remained at 20% -- a slight drop from the 20.2% revised January unemployment rate for the area.
Luna is the only county in New Mexico to top the 20% milestone the last two months, and one of only two counties in the state with double-digit unemployment.
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions show Luna County with a February unemployment rate of 20% even. Last February’s rate was 19.8%.
Following Luna County in the list of New Mexico counties with the worst unemployment is Mora County with 15%. Rounding out the top five are Guadalupe at 9.7%, Taos at 9.5% and McKinley at 9.1%.
In our area, Grant County had 7.7% unemployment in February, Hidalgo County had 7.4% and the Las Cruces area had 7.2%. The county with the least unemployment remains Los Alamos with 4.2%.
The state unemployment rate for February – at 6.8% – was up slightly from the January
revised rate of 6.6% but down from last February’s rate of 7%.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 11,964 – with
9,566 employed and 2,398 unemployed.
(Deming) -- Luna County's unemployment rate in October was the same as September’s revised rate, and we continue to top the state in the number of residents out of work.
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of
Workforce Solutions show Luna County with an October unemployment rate of 11.8%.
That figure is the same as September’s revised rate, but down from last October’s rate of 13.2%.
Following Luna County in the list of New Mexico counties with the worst unemployment is Mora
County with 11.1%.
Those were the only two counties in the state with unemployment greater than 10%.
Rounding out the top five are Guadalupe at 8.2%, and Taos and McKinley both at 7.8%.
In our area: Grant County had 6.4% unemployment in October, Hidalgo County had 5.9%, and the
Las Cruces area had 6.7%. The county with the least unemployment remains Los Alamos with 3.4%.
The state unemployment rate for October – at 6.3% – was down slightly from the September
revised rate of 6.4%. The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 12,866 – with 11,342 employed and 1,524 unemployed.

(Deming) – A Deming manufacturing company has been awarded funds from the New Mexico Economic Development Department’s Job Training Incentive Program to help create more jobs in Deming.
Compass Components, a privately held manufacturing services and distribution corporation located in the Deming Industrial Park, received over 76-thousand dollars from the state program to create eight jobs.
Compass Manufacturing Services opened in April of 2007, in its 40-thousand square-foot harness manufacturing facility.
The company specializes in cable, harness and electro-mechanical assembly and system integration. Official say Compass Components supports a variety of industry leaders in the transportation, semiconductor, capital equipment and medical markets… as well as network and telecom, test and measurement, and metal fabricator industries.
State Economic Development Secretary Jon Barela said the Job Training Incentive Program provides job creators – like Compass Components – the assistance they may need to take the next step and grow their company.
He added that having a steady stream of dollars available to help businesses hire and train workers has been a great benefit to the state.
Other businesses awarded job training funds were located in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Clovis and Las Vegas, New Mexico.

That figure is down from the March revised rate of 20-point-five percent, and also down from last April's rate of 21 percent.

Rounding out the top five are Guadalupe at nine-point-five percent... Taos at nine-point-one percent... and McKinley at seven-point-eight percent.
