(Deming) – The Luna County Commissioners will meet in closed  session Tuesday morning.

According to the legal notice, the purpose of the meeting is to discuss
limited personnel matters pertaining to the Luna County Detention Center.

It is unknown whether those matters relate to the charges dropped last
week against former warden John Krehbiel.

Fourteen misdemeanor charges against Krehbiel were dropped  after a judge ruled that he did not violate state law.

The 51-year-old was charged with deliberately releasing  prisoners without orders of release through the Luna County Detention Center's  "Recidivism Reduction Program," a multi-step program aimed at reducing future  offenses.  A portion of the program  allowed for inmates to be granted furloughs as a means to reintegrate into  society. The furloughs in question took place between July 2010 and April
2011.

Sixth Judicial District Court Judge Daniel Viramontes said  Krehbiel granted furloughs to inmates correctly under the program.  Furloughs are not considered a  “release,” but rather an extension of the jail boundaries.  All of the furloughed inmates reported  back to the facility at the conclusion of the furlough.

The decision came after a 25-point motion for dismissal was  filed in May by Krehbiel's attorney, Jim Foy.

The closed commission meeting is set  to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the commission chambers of the Luna County  Courthouse.
