(Deming) – Here’s the area crime  report:

Ivone Escalante-Casillas, age 33,  of Columbus, was arrested for aggravated battery on a peace officer, resisting  or obstructing an officer, trespassing and disorderly conduct… Herman Benzor,  age 23, was arrested on a Magistrate warrant for driving while license was  suspended or revoked.

Luis Escobedo, age 31, of Hatch,  was arrested on a federal warrant for a probation violation… Charles William  Chadborn, age 46, was arrested on an Adult Probation and Parole Office warrant  for a probation violation… and Erick Avila, age 27, was arrested on a District  Court warrant for failure to appear.

In juvenile news… the District  Attorney’s Office filed a petition on a 16-year-old girl for possession of a  controlled substance and
possession of drug paraphernalia.

And in other news… Deming Police  officials are investigating a possible embezzlement of over $40,000.The victim is an
88-year—old Deming  resident and the suspect is a caregiver.

(Deming) -- The Southwestern New Mexico State Fair  Association will hold its annual meeting Thursday evening.

The main  action at the meeting will be the election of four board  members.

Three of  the four current board members whose terms are expiring are seeking  re-election.They are Mike Brabson,  Marty Miller and Susie Swope.
The board  member not seeking re-election is Danna Simmons.
In  addition, three people are seeking election to the board.  They are Hannah Magnuson, Berenda  McWright and Cal Wenzel.

The  annual meeting will be held at the Adobe Deli.A dutch-treat dinner is set to begin at  6 p.m., followed by the meeting at 7 p.m.

In  addition to the board of directors' election, the membership will be presented  with a report on the past year's activities.

Again, the Southwestern New Mexico State  Fair Association's annual meeting is set to begin at 6 p.m. this Thursday with a  dutch-treat dinner at the Adobe Deli.

 
 
(Deming) – The Deming School Board will meet in multiple sessions Thursday. 

The first meeting, set for 1:15 p.m., is an executive – or closed – session to discuss Superintendent Harvielee Moore’s 
evaluation.

 Then the board will meet in special session at 3 p.m. to consider a  lease-purchase arrangement resolution and certificate
purchase agreement, as  well as a review of instructional audits.Action will be taken, and the special session is open to the
public. 

Then at 4 p.m., the board will return to executive – or closed – session  to discuss limited personnel including the
superintendent’s evaluation, pending  litigation and the acquisition or disposal of real property.

And the regular January meeting of the Deming School Board, which is open  to the public, is set to begin at 5
p.m.

All meetings are scheduled to take place in the board room of  the Emmett Shockley Administration Building,
400 Cody Road.

(Deming) - The Deming Wildcats took on the Cobre Indians in Deming tonight (Tuesday).  
All three Deming teams took home victories.  
Scoring for the games:
Freshmen:  Deming 58 - Cobre 28
JV:  Deming 64 – Cobre 45
Varsity:  Deming 62– Cobre 31 
With the win… The Cats go to 13-3 overall.

Then on Saturday…The Cats play Artesia Bulldogs Saturday at 3:30 here in Deming.

Deming) – Here’s the area crime  report:
Francisco Porras, age  22, was arrested for interference with officers and on a federal warrant for a  probation violation.
Josias Villanueva, age 24, of Las Vegas, New Mexico, was  arrested on a San
Miguel County warrant for speeding… Kevin Barriaga, age 20,  was arrested on a
Magistrate warrant for failure to appear… Juan Jaramillo, age  27, who was already incarcerated in the Luna County Detention Center, was served  with a Dona Ana County warrant for no driver’s license, no insurance and  improper equipment… and a 16-year-old boy was picked up on a Municipal warrant  and on a District Court warrant for failure to appear.

Also… a car stereo,  speakers and an amplifier
with a combined value of nearly $1,500 were taken from  a location off South
Eighth Street.

(Deming) -- If you are a Deming High School graduate who  still needs to pass portions of the New Mexico High School Competency Exam in  order to receive your official high school diploma, retakes for the exam are  being offered now through January 24th.

The New Mexico High School Competency Exam is the test all  high school graduates had to pass in order to receive their official high school  diploma.

If  you graduated from Deming High between 2008 and 2011 and still need to pass any  portion of the exam, contact the Deming High School Guidance office at 546-6561  during regular school hours to set up an appointment to retake the  test.

Again, retakes for the New Mexico High School Competency Exam  are being offered now through January 24th.Contact the Deming High School Guidance  Office weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 546-6561 to schedule an appointment to  take the test.

Gumecindo Ochoa, age  59, was arrested for aggravated DUI and no insurance… Adrian Lopez, age 21, was  arrested for
burglary, two counts of larceny, identity theft, theft of credit  card, injuring or tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting or obstructing  officers… Isabel Garcia, age 47, was arrested for battery… a criminal summons  was filed on Sarah Kucera Holladay, age 41, for battery.

Joseph Dominguez, age  27, was arrested for possession of burglary tools, possession of drug  paraphernalia, causing criminal damage to property and conspiracy… Matthew  Wilderman, age 26, was arrested for possession of burglary tools, causing  criminal damage to property and conspiracy… Richard Charles Montes, age 50, was  arrested on two counts of causing criminal damage to property.

Lawrence Prendergast,  age 60, of Brighton, Michigan, was arrested on a Colfax County warrant for  failure to comply with conditions of probation… Josue Pedregon, age 21, was  arrested on two Municipal warrants for failure to appear… Vanessa Pacheco, age  23, was arrested on a
Municipal warrant for failure to appear… and Christopher  Rios, age 27, was arrested on a Municipal warrant for failure to appear. 

Also… an abandoned  residence off Spanish Trail was engulfed in flames Sunday evening at just after  10 p.m. … over $4,900 worth of televisions, video game players and other  electronics were taken from a residence off Dona Ana Road Southwest… a weed  eater, nail guns and an electric
saw with a combined value of over $1,100 were  taken from a separate residence off Dona Ana Road Southwest… $1,000 worth of  jewelry items were taken from a residence off East Locust… $1,000 in criminal  damage occurred to a vehicle window and glass on a sliding door at a business  off South Gold Avenue… a television, DVD player and 20 DVDs with a combined  value of over $800 were taken from a residence off East Fourth… surveillance  cameras were taken from a business off Railroad Avenue… and a woman reported her  purse containing $120 cash, debit cards and other items was taken from Wal-Mart;  her debit card was used for over $200 worth of charges at another Deming  business.

The Deming Wildcat  Varsity Basketball team defeated the Mesilla Valley Christian School tonight (Saturday) in Las Cruces.  
The final score was Deming 63 Mesilla Valley 50.

In Wildcat JV action tonight…  Deming lost to Mesilla Valley 45 to 55.

(Deming) - Deming Wildcats took on Silver Fighting colts tonight at Wildcat gymnasium.  At the half, the Colts lead the Cats 23-20.  

The game ended with a cardiac finish for Deming fans.  It was a squeaker victory for the Cats over the Colts…  Final score Deming 40 Silver City 39.

Deming goes to 11 and 3 overall.  This was the second time the Cats defeated the Colts this season.  The first time the score was 50-43 in Silver.

Guadalupe Contreras,  age 71, was arrested on a Magistrate felony warrant for unlawful taking of a  motor vehicle… Aquilino Johnny Flores, age 44, was arrested for interference  with officers… and Brandon Kibe, age 29, was arrested on two Magistrate warrants – one for failure to appear and one for failure to pay fines.

Also, the District  Attorney filed petitions on a 16-year-old girl from Palomas, Mexico, for  possession of 3.6 kilos of marijuana with intent to distribute… on a 17-year-old  girl for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia… and on a  15-year-old boy for possession of alcohol by a minor.
