(Deming) - Deming Ladycats defeated the Artesia Lady Bulldogs 53-47 tonight in Deming. The JV Ladycats lost to Artesia by 1 point 43-44.

Fabian Barrera, age 25, was arrested for aggravated DUI, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and on an improper turn driving violation… Scott Wiewel, age 40, of Tucson, Arizona, was arrested for aggravated DUI, reckless driving, speeding, having an open container and on an improper lane driving violation… Javier Perez, age 21, was arrested for possession of marijuana, concealing identity and on a Magistrate warrant for failure to pay fines.
Timothy Deloso, age 43, was arrested for abandonment or abuse of a child… David Thomas, age 32, was arrested for battery against a household member… Bryanda Martinez, age 24, was arrested for battery against a household member… Daniel Perez, age 31, was charged with violating a restraining order… Alvin Cardona, age 27, was arrested for resisting or evading an officer and on a Magistrate warrant for failure to pay fines.

(Deming) – A Mexican national wanted on sex offender crimes and a kidnapping charge in Colorado was caught in Luna County Wednesday.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials, 28-year-old Alvaro Ivan Dominguez-Estrada was one of five illegal immigrants caught by Border Patrol agents north of the international border with Mexico Wednesday.
A check of the immigrants’ identifications showed Estrada had an outstanding bench warrant for failure to appear on numerous criminal sexual assault charges, and a kidnapping charge out of Denver, Colorado. Estrada was booked into the Luna County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Denver. An immigration detainer also was filed on him.
(Deming) – The Deming-Luna County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a School Board Candidate Forum Tuesday.
A media release said the Deming Public School District is the 15th largest district out of 87 in New Mexico, and that concerns of the education of Luna County children have been an ongoing discussion throughout the community.
As such, the media release said, the chamber is hosting a forum for the seven individuals running for the two seats – District One and District Two – on the ballot this election cycle.
In District One, incumbent David McSherry, who is running for a third term on the board, is being challenged by Ronald Wolfe.
And five candidates are vying to replace District Two member Anne Keeler, who did not seek reelection.
Those five are Mickey Hamilton, Jr., Frederick Metcalf, Kenneth Perea, Phillip Skinner and John Sweetser.
The forum will include statements from the candidates and questions from the audience written on index cards and reviewed by chamber board members.
It is set to run from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Historic Train Depot off North Country Club Road next to Starmax.It is open to the public.

(Deming) -- The 100th annual meeting of the Old Timer's Association of Luna County will be held Monday. The purpose of the meeting is to elect officers and discuss new business.
Current officers include Presidents Tom and Delia Perez... Past-President Katie and Mike Hofacket... Treasurer Sylvia Coussons... and Co-Secretaries Gertrude Kretek and Geraldine Kretek.

(Deming) – The Deming Motor Vehicle office at 700 East Spruce will be closed this Thursday from 8:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. for employee training.
The employees are scheduled to be updated on new motor vehicle procedures being implemented this year.
The office will open at 11 a.m. Thursday and will be open to 3:45 p.m., and the office will resume regular hours Friday.
Again, the Deming Motor Vehicle office will be closed this Thursday morning until after 11 a.m. for employee training.
